Find all the information necessary to understand the great Roman Empire, roman Emperors and roman Wars. You will also learn about the different type of gladiators there were in Rome.
It's hard to know exactly when Rome was founded and in which conditions. All we have are legends and some writings.
Some legend says it happened 438 years after the capture of Troy (which happened 1182 BC).
Historians agree that the founding of the city happened April 21st between 758 BC and 728 BC. Why April 21st? Simply because it was the day of the festival sacred to Pales, goddess of shepherds.
There were two type of gladiators: 1) The condemned criminal, prisoners of war, or slaves; and 2) Professional gladiators who volunteered.
Why would anyone volunteer? Gladiators were stars. If you wanted fame, popularity and partonage of wealthy Roman citizen, all you needed was to be a good gladiator. You could easly raise in your social status.
Slaves and criminal could win freedom if they survived three to five years.
